Weathering Wire Lace Earrings

I love the look of lace. When I was first married, twenty years ago, I plastered every surface of my home with lace doilies.  There wasn't a shape or size off limits. To visitors, it may have looked like my house was the holiday spot for "doilie fairies" all around the world.

That love affair quickly ended when I experienced the amount of time and energy it took just to dust, wash and iron those delicate confections.  Let alone, caring for all the cute knick knacks displayed on top of them. In those days it was a huge collection of cows.
Although the cows are gone, my heart still skips a beat when I see a beautifully crafted piece of lace.
My affair with lace was was rekindled when I saw Melody MacDuffee's, Lacy Wire Jewelry at Barnes and Noble.  These earrings are an adaptation of one of her patterns.
Like creating lace, these earrings do take quite a bit of time.  Just to make one, it took about 1 1/4 chic flicks (about 3 hours).  I must've really enjoyed it because I've made quite a few using different materials and colors.  Here are some!

Recently, a very brave group of ladies, took my class on learning this technique.  They were great to "play" with and by the end, had created beautiful earrings.  If you would like to see our crazy class in action, go to  While you're there, take a gander at everything else Bead Street has to offer.

Eileen Barker, who owns Bead Street, has an amazing store located in Boise, Idaho.  Her classes are fun, trendy and diverse.  Her store has a huge selection of seed beads and every type of czech glass you can think of.  I'm so glad you can't see the drool running down my chin!
Eileen is a great mentor to me and has a wealth of knowledge about all things related to beading.  A passionate designer and beader herself, she is always quick to help me in any way possible.  I feel absolutely spoiled when I'm with her. Thank you Eileen!
